Sometimes we don’t have to choose total knee replacement, maybe an HTO or a UKA can also solve the joint disease, here are a invaluable advice from PJPGEC.
1. The HTO and UKA are suitable for different cartilage situations
HTO: cartiliage thickness from full to 0
MB-UKA: bone on bone, including subchondral bone erosion
2.They have different requirements for degrees os tibia vara
3. Age & Activity requirements
UKA: no upper age limit. However, the patients that age more than 60(male) and females age more than 55 are not recommended. The person who needs to do some high-impact sports or has psychological difficulty or has one more chance for cartilage repair is also not suitable for the UKA operative.
