JUST Customized Product Revision Surgery Case Presentation

Recently, Dr. Liu Chaohui from the China-Japan Friendship Hospital and Dr. Yang Wenguo from Baotou Third Hospital collaborated to perform a revision surgery using a 3D-customized implant. The patient is recovering well postoperatively.

• Case Report

• Chief Complaint: Four years after bilateral knee arthroplasty, the patient experienced nonunion of a left supracondylar femur fracture for two years.

• History of Present Illness: The patient underwent bilateral knee arthroplasty four years ago due to severe osteoarthritis in both knees. Postoperatively, the patient adhered to a prescribed rehabilitation program, including regular follow-up X-rays. Two years later, the patient suffered a fall, resulting in a left supracondylar femur fracture. This injury was treated with open reduction and internal fixation using a plate and screws. However, over the next six to twelve months, the fracture failed to heal, leading to a progressive deformity of the left knee and prominence of the fixation hardware under the skin. Recent X-rays revealed a clear fracture line, sclerosis and absorption of the bone ends, a broken distal screw in the lateral femoral plate, and a varus deformity of the knee. The patient was advised to undergo further treatment.

• Admission Status: Upon admission, the patient was alert and oriented, with no signs of palpitations or shortness of breath. There was no history of retrograde amnesia, abdominal pain, or distension. The patient had normal speech and cognition, a healthy appetite, and regular bowel and bladder function.

• Past Medical History: The patient has a 30-year history of hypertension, which has been managed with regular medication. There is no history of infectious diseases, drug allergies, or localized lesions, and the patient has received all scheduled vaccinations.
